Social media is mainly related to positive outlooks on life. People usually celebrate their achievements and successes, and mostly keep their failures away from the social world. Hence, we are presented with a distorted view of reality, and we find ourselves comparing our lives to that of others and their social media projections. This can make us feel like failures and inferior to others which can cause anxiety and may also lead to depression and mental instability.

FOMO has gained wide popularity in recent times mainly because of online platforms. This mainly means that people start to compare themselves with people who are participating in other events which they cannot. This causes severe anxiety about not joining the bandwagon.
