In the latest episode of “Koffee With Karan”, Karan Johar hosted his debut film “Kuch Kuch Hota Hai” actresses Kajol and Rani Mukherjee.
Where both actresses talked about their off-screen relationship which evolved over the years. The interesting fact is Rani and Kajol are cousins and Rani made debut at the time when Kajol had a well established career in Bollywood.
On this episode of Koffee With Karan, Karan Johar shared that he would always used to wonder that both of the actresses were not close enough to each other, even after being a family.
Kajol said that there was “organic distance” between both of them.
Reason of “organic distance” between Kajol and Rani?
Karan Johar said that “you both never share the bond of close friendship or relationship” and continued that Kajol kept “a silent distance from Rani.” “I used to wonder what kind of family this is? They’re not even talking to each other. I thought they are cousins, it will all be good,” he said.
Rani explained that she had known Kajol from childhood, and accepted that the relationship between the two is “strange.” She added,“She was always Kajol didi for me.”
Rani continued it is always a little too hard to explain why distance comes between people who used to be close when they grow older. Rani continued, that even if there is a certain distance between Kajol and her, she was and will always stay close to Kajol’s younger sister Tanisha Mukherjee.
How Kajol and Rani came closer:
When Karan Johar asked how they came closer and made their relationship better later in life, Rani answered that it happened when they lose their fathers. “As families when you lose your loved ones, I was very close to Kajol’s dad. When you go through tough times, when you go through loss in the family in terms of people you love, I think that’s when everyone comes closer,” Rani said.
She said age plays a crucial role in changing equations and said that there is a “difference when you are 17 and when you are 40, you grow wiser as people. You also learn to not bother about the little things.”
