Academy Award winner Alfonso Cuarón will be honored with the lifetime achievement award at the 77th edition of the Locarno Film Festival. Cuarón will be awarded on August 11 at the Swiss town’s Piazza Grande.
Who is Alfonso Cuaron?
Mexican filmmaker Alfonso Cuarón Orozco is known for films including ‘Y tu mamá también,’ ‘Roma,’ and third Harry Potter series, ‘Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.‘ He has won four Academy Awards, seven BAFTA Awards, and three Golden Globe Awards.
Cuarón has also won Best Film Editing for ‘Gravity’ and Best Cinematography for ‘Roma.’

Nazzaro in a statement described the Mexican filmmaker as a “visionary author of agile and liberated imaginaries” who blends experimental spirit with the sweep of great popular writers.He also added that Cuarón “has managed to capture the imagination and hearts of millions of viewers, passing on the same wonder that he himself experienced as a child and teenager basking in the glow of classic Mexican cinema.
The film festival is set to begin on August 7 and will go on till August 17.
