Mihir Shah, 24, son of Shinde Sena leader Rajesh Shah, allegedly rammed his speeding BMW into a motorcycle-riding couple in Mumbai’s Worli on Sunday.
The couple, Pradeep and Kaveri Nakhava, were returning home after buying fish from Sassoon Dock when they were hit on Dr. Annie Besant Road in the Koliwada area around 5.30 am. Reports indicate that the speeding BMW dragged Kaveri, 45, for over two kilometres. While Shah fled the scene, Kaveri succumbed to her injuries at Nair Hospital.
Following the incident, the police arrested his father Rajesh Shah, Mihir’s father on the same day. The BMW was registered in Rajesh Shah’s name and was later found abandoned in Kala Nagar, Bandra East. The Mumbai Police have launched a manhunt to capture the accused. Police officials are questioning his girlfriend to determine if she helped him hide.

BMW Kills 45-Year-Old Kaveri Nakhava
A CCTV clip captured Mihir Shah leaving Juhu’s Global Tapas Bar at around 1.15 am on Sunday, few hours before the accident. Police authorities located the vehicle using GPS and found the family’s chauffeur, Rishiraj Budwat with the car whom they interrogated.
Pradeep, who suffered minor injuries while speaking to the media said, “The accident happened at 5.30 am, the car came from behind and rammed into the scooter. I fell on the left side, but my wife was dragged through the road by the speeding BMW ”
“I have two children, what will I do? These are big people, nobody will do anything, we will suffer,” he further added.
A case was registered against the accused under various sections of the new criminal law of Bharatiya Nyaya Sahita:
- 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder),
- 281 (rash and negligent driving endangering human life),
- 125-B (endangering life and personal safety),
- 238, 324(4) (committing mischief amounting to cause loss and damage).

He said, “The lives of ordinary citizens are precious to us. I have directed the State Police department to handle these cases with the utmost seriousness and ensure justice is served. In addition, we are implementing stricter laws and harsher penalties for hit-and-run offenders.”
He further added, “No one, whether rich, influential, or the offspring of bureaucrats or ministers, affiliated with any party, will have immunity as long as I am the Chief Minister of the State. I have zero tolerance for injustice.”
