Excitement is at its peak, as Dhanteras is approaching and people are now engaged in beautifying their homes with new utensils, and gold and silver items for worshipping Gods and Goddesses. Dhanteras is on 10 November, two days before Diwali. On this auspicious day, everyone becomes more joyous and happy to celebrate Diwali with some newness at their homes. They decorate their living space with colourful candles, lights, garlands and flower vases. Most of the people prefer to travel to the cities of India where Diwali is not just a festival but an emotion.
Dhanteras is an auspicious Hindu festival which marks the beginning of the Diwali festivities. On this day people offer prayers to Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Kuber to bless them with wealth and prosperity. People used to purchase Lakshmi and Ganesh idols made mainly of clay or metal. Also. people buy gold, silver, brass utensils, and other household items, including equipment, vehicles, phones, laptops, refrigerators, microwaves, brooms and more. Iron
People should avoid buying items made of iron as it is considered inauspicious during the holy time of Dhanteras or Diwali. It is believed that Lord Kuber does not bless those people who buy iron-made utensils or other things.
Steel
You can see many people buying steel items during Dhanteras but it is advised not to buy items made of steel. Instead one can opt for buying utensils made of copper or bronze. Brass metals can also be bought during the festive time.
Sharp objects
Dhanteras is a very auspicious day and people therefore avoid buying sharp objects like knives and scissors as this can bring bad luck to the family. It’s better to avoid purchasing such objects during the holy time of the month.
Empty vessels
It’s very natural that shop owners will not give you vessels or utensils that are filled up with food or water. So, it is your duty to fill them with water or any other thing before entering the house. This is regarded as a sign of good luck and prosperity.
Glassware
Purchase of glass items or glassware should be avoided during Dhanteras as it is considered bad luck because glass is related to Rahu which is not good for festivities.
Aluminium and plastic products
These products are also not good to buy during the time of Dhanteras as they are considered inauspicious for your family and home. Better you can buy items made of metal.
Oil/Ghee
People should avoid purchasing oil and ghee during Dhanteras and if they need these items they can but a day before or after it. Anything that is not good for your home or family, you should always try to stay away from those things.
Fake Gold
Buying fake gold is also not recommended because it can bring bad luck to your home or family.
