Dominic Fike, who starred in Euphoria, openly discussed his experience staying sober while filming Season 2. Fike, who played an addict named Elliot in the show, revealed in a recent Variety interview that the producers hired a “random lady” as a sober coach. The intention was to provide support, but Dominic Fike found it difficult because he and the coach “never relate.”
Dominic Fike sobriety challenge:
The 28-year-old actor admitted that the arrangement backfired, emphasising the difficulty of accepting advice from someone to whom he could not relate. Dominic said, “We had nothing in common. We did not come from the same places or with the same problems. It was difficult to give or take advice from someone like that.”
This situation differs from his recent film Little Death, in which he found it easier to play an addict because the director, Jack Bergert, is “one of his best friends.” Regarding his future in Euphoria, Dominic expressed uncertainty about Season 3, stating, “Last time I talked to them, it was cool, [but] I don’t really talk to them anymore,” but expressed interest in returning if the opportunity arose. Dominic said it would be “dope” if he got a call for work during the season, but added, “Who knows, I’ve got stuff to do.”
Angus Cloud was honoured at Sundance Film Festival:
As an aside, the late Angus Cloud, who was well-known for Euphoria, received a posthumous honour at the Sundance Film Festival for his work in Freaky Tales. After considering Cloud’s demise, Jay Ellis remarked, “On our first day together, we went to the house to work on the project, and I got to meet Pedro [Pascal], Ben Mendelsohn, and Angus Cloud.” Dominic, on the other hand, conveyed his grief by saying, “I just miss him.”
Page Six confirmed in September that Angus Cloud died tragically in July 2023 from an accidental overdose of drugs including cocaine, methamphetamine, and fentanyl.
The interview provides an insight into the difficulties that actors encounter both on and off screen. It calls into question the efficacy of some support systems, like working with a sober coach. It emphasises how crucial it is to establish settings in which people feel heard and encouraged as they work toward sobriety.
