Intl Yoga Day: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on his first visit to Jammu and Kashmir after commencing his third term, pledged that the Union Territory will soon regain its statehood. Addressing an event titled “Empowering Youth, Transforming J&K,” he emphasized the transformative changes in the region, attributing them to the BJP’s decade-long governance at the Centre. Modi’s visit, spanning two days, includes leading the 10th International Day of Yoga (IDY) celebrations in Srinagar.
PM Modi’s visit is particularly notable as it coincides with the upcoming Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, which has been under the Governor’s Rule since 2018 following the BJP’s withdrawal from its alliance with the PDP. The Union Territory has not had an elected Assembly since then.
During his visit, Modi handed out over 2,000 government job appointment letters and inaugurated several developmental projects in Srinagar. He highlighted the significant strides made in the region due to the BJP’s policies over the past ten years.

International Yoga Day Celebrations
The 10th International Day of Yoga will be celebrated at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre (SKICC) on Dal Lake’s banks, with PM Modi leading the event. The theme, “Yoga for Self and Society,” underscores the practice’s role in enhancing individual and communal well-being. Security measures have been heightened, and Srinagar has been designated a ‘temporary red zone’ to ensure the Prime Minister’s safety.
Global and Local Impact
Reflecting on his recent participation in the G7 Summit in Italy, Modi remarked on the global implications of his government’s third consecutive term. He noted that this continuity has positively influenced international relations and India’s global standing.
Increased Tourism and Global Recognition
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha highlighted the increased foreign tourist influx post the G20 summit and the anticipated lift of travel bans following the International Yoga Day event. Sinha praised PM Modi for his special connection with Jammu and Kashmir, leading to the celebration of International Yoga Day in Srinagar.
