Skincare Routine – Game-changing tricks
Apply hydrating products to moist skin
During winter skin becomes dry and uneven so the application of products that add moisture and softness to your skin is a must. The ideal time to apply moisturiser is right after you have a shower when your skin is still wet. Always choose a moisturizer that has humectant (a substance that retains moisture), such as glycerin, hyaluronic acid or polyglutamic acid.
Give up fragrance in skincare products
The fragrance is not always a must for the face cream that you apply during the summer or winter season. But in the winter season, the skin becomes more sensitive and prone to irritation. Fragrances in cleansers that you wash off might also irritate people. Scented face creams do not always benefit people but can cause irritation or other allergic reactions.
Choose skin layering
Opt for skin layering during the winter season as it protects the skin from dryness and balances the tone of the skin. Try putting serum, toner, sunscreen, and moisturizer accordingly step by step to get glowing and nourishing skin even during winter. The layering method is useful because it allows you to moisturise your skin without clogging it with thick moisturisers, which may irritate it.
Avoid over moisturising
Apply a thick layer of skin-cocooning moisturiser if you’re experiencing dry skin. You could also reapply it as the day goes on but never overdo it as it can do more harm than good, because it contains chemicals like mineral oils, petrolatum, lanolin and paraffin oil that block pores. Many people over-moisturize, which leaves their skin flaky and scaly.
Avoid the cleansing mistakes
If you are applying cleanser to your skin during winter then always try to use creamier cleanser as it is good for dry skin. Use a mild, creamy cleanser in the morning and a foamy cleanser in the evening to equalise the effects and get rid of sunscreen and makeup cleaners that include polyhydroxy acids or PHAs.
Get hold of a mist moisturizer
Always opt for applying mist moisturizer as face mists have advanced significantly and now have a thicker texture, which is perfect for winter. It’s a great idea to have something like a mist that you can apply throughout the winter season without affecting whatever else you’ve applied on your face, such as sunscreen and cosmetics. It’s generally best to use a light, readily absorbed mist first and then sunscreen on top of that.
Opt for Skin Cycling
Skin cycling is mainly the “rest days” throughout the week so that, following the use of specific products, your skin can heal itself. Try “skin cycling”: apply products that have promising benefits, such as retinol one evening, an exfoliating acid the next, then two nights with a very basic moisturising cream that contains no active ingredients at all to give your skin a short break. Then repeat the same again.
