Uttar Pradesh Hathras: In a tragic incident in a Mughalgarhi village in the Hathras district of Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday, at least 116 people died in a major stampede that occurred after a religious event “Satsang,” ended. The Satsang was organised in honour of a local guru, Bhole Baba aka Narayan Saakar Hari, popularly known as Sakar Vishwa Hari Baba.

According to the police, people attending the ‘satsang’ experienced suffocation and heat-related discomfort as they began leaving the event, causing a stampede-like situation.“It was very hot and humid during the event,” the police added.
Tragedy at Hathras ‘Satsang’ Event: Chaos Ensues During Exit
Eyewitnesses present at the Satsang described scenes of chaos as a large crowd struggled to leave through a narrow exit after the religious event concluded. “People fell in a drain by the road. They started falling one on top of the other and got crushed to death,”said an eyewitness.
“There was a huge crowd gathered of followers at the spot. There was no way out, and everybody fell on each other, and a stampede took place. When I tried to move out, motorcycles parked outside, which blocked my way. Many fainted while others died,” said a victim.
All the affected victims were taken to the Sikandara Rao Trauma Centre in trucks and other vehicles.
Who is Bhole Baba?
‘Bhole Baba’ formerly known as Saurabh Kumar previously worked in the intelligence department of Uttar Pradesh Police. After 17 years of service, he took voluntary retirement from his service and began his journey as a preacher.
The loss of life in the unfortunate accident in Hathras district is “extremely sad and heart- wrenching,” said Yogi Adityanath.
He further stated, “Instructions have been given to the concerned officials to conduct relief and rescue operations on war footing and to provide proper treatment to the injured.”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his condolences to those who have lost their loved ones and wished for the speedy recovery of all the victims.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, said the incident to be “extremely painful.” The government and administration are requested to provide every possible treatment to the injured and relief to the affected families. ” he added in his X post.
