Pradeep Gupta, the Chairman and Managing Director of Axis My India, who predicted National Democratic Alliance (NDA), crossing over 400 seats in Lok Sabha, broke down in tears, on India TV during a live panel discussion as his exit poll predictions proved incorrect.

Rajdeep Sardesai consoled him saying “his predictions on Andhra Pradesh and Odisha to be right, and that of Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, and Bengal to be a mistake which can happen and is okay”. Anchor Rahul Kanwal appreciated his courage and said “polls are always directional, anybody who gets carried away by saying that the polls are gospel, they are not.” He also thanked Gupta and his team for his efforts in the Lok Sabha campaigning.

Exit Poll Predictions Vs Election Results
In an interview with ANI, Pradeep Gupta on 3rd June said, “Axis My India has done Exit Polls continuously for the last 10 years. We have done that for 69 elections, including 2 Lok Sabha elections. Our predictions have been correct 65 times. As far as credibility is concerned, people who are raising questions should have a look at our track record, they will be satisfied…”
On June 1, Axis My India had forecast 361-401 seats for the BJP-led alliance, affirming the “Abki Baar 400 Paar” slogan of BJP, and 131-166 seats for the opposition INDIA bloc. However, in the actual results NDA only got 295 seats, while INDIA bloc at 230.
Opposition had dismissed the exit poll predictions as “fake”
Pradeep Gupta’s Response on Rahul Gandhi’s remark
In response to this, Axis My India, MD said “It is a matter of sour grapes,” It’s his right; he can term it in any way he likes. He knows himself that India Today Axis My India had also predicted victories in Karnataka, Himachal, and Telangana, and he was quite pleased then.”
“Results would come out on 4th June. I think Rahul Gandhi will be happy too to know that Axis My India will prove to be correct once again.” he added in his statement.
