India is now earning praise in the ongoing World Cup 2023, even from their opponent team with whom they have played and come out victorious. On Friday, 3rd Nov, England’s Test captain Ben Stokes, while interacting with the media reporters, termed Mohammad Shami as the “baller of the tournament.” Shami has played a remarkable game in this World Cup by gaining 14 wickets in just three matches at an astonishing average of 6.71, where he took five wickets against Sri Lanka played at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.
Stokes’s admiration of Shami is totally understandable because his performance in the World Cup is really commendable. As you know, Ben Stokes is a destructive batsman who eventually lost his middle and leg stumps after facing nine dot balls from Shami at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow on October 29.
Stokes also shared his experience of playing against India and the challenges he faced from Shami. He said, “I have played a lot of cricket against India where Shami was the main baller, and I think he is the Baller of the World Cup, too, because the way he played every game is really remarkable as he always used to find some way to gain the wickets rather losing them. And sometimes we need to praise even our opposition team, and Yes, Shami was really a good baller”.
World Cup 2023 – Stokes to undergo knee surgery
Meanwhile, the 32-year-old Ben Stokes revealed that after the World Cup, he would undergo knee surgery because of which he is facing problems while playing. Stokes said, “It’s probably the first time since I’ve had this knee issue where it’s been quite clear that I will not be given to bowl in the World Cup.”
The reporters also questioned him whether he knew how it feels to undergo knee surgery, and his reply left everyone in splits. Stokes said, “Well, when we go to those meetings, I used to take with me a physio and a doctor, and then those two start talking, and then I just turn and sleep for a while that when I woke up, hopefully, it will be better.”
He further said that this World Cup has been disastrous for Team England, and nothing really worked for them. Every opportunity that they had where they could manage to win the games, but in one way or another, the opposition didn’t allow them to make it to the finals.
