The government has extended the deadline for updating Aadhaar details until June 14th, 2024, UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India) announced on Tuesday.
“UIDAI extends free online document upload facility till 14th June 2024; to benefit millions of Aadhaar holders. This free service is available only on the my Aadhaar portal. UIDAI has been encouraging people to keep documents updated in their Aadhaar,” UIDAI wrote on platform X.
What is Aadhaar?
Aadhaar is a 12-digit unique identity number issued to Indian citizens based on biometric and demographic information. The number is unique and there is no duplicate number as it is linked to their individual biometrics which identity fraudulent and ghost identities.
Why to Update Aadhaar?
If the Aadhaar was issued more than 10 years ago and has not been updated since then, UIDAI has been suggesting citizens update or submit proof to revalidate their demographic information. This will help them to provide better services and authentication will be more successful.
UIDAI is offering free service on my Adhaar Portal, as earlier, it cost Rs 50 to use the service at physical Aadhaar centers.
Where to Update Aadhaar?
There are two options to update their demographic information, citizens can use the standard online update service or go to the local Aadhaar center.
How to update Aadhaar details online?
- Login to https://myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in/, by using the Aadhaar number and one-time password (OTP).
- Check your identity and address, details displayed in your profile.
- If details displaced on the profile are not correct
- Select an identity document from the drop-down list and update your identity document
- Select the address document from the drop-down list and update your address document
- Submit your consent
How to update Online?
- Go to https://bhuvan.nrsc.gov.in/aadhaar/
- Click on the ‘Centers Nearby’ tab to locate Aadhaar centers
- Enter your location details to view Aadhaar centers nearby
- Click on the ‘Pin Code’ tab to locate center within your PIN code area
- Enter your area PIN code to view the Aadhaar centers
