Three Juggi clusters in east Delhi with nearly 4,000 households, will be redeveloped by Delhi Development Authority (DDA) as an in situ rehabilitation project. The three Juggi clusters include Kalandar Colony, Deepak Colony, and Dikshad Vihar Colony.
Slum Rehabilitation Project in Delhi
This is the first project under the Jahan Jhuggi Wahin Makaan scheme in the Trans-Yamuna area, by DDA for slum rehabilitation.
The decision was taken by Lieutenant Governor (LG) VK Saxena, at a meeting with DDA Vice Chairman Subhasish Panda. This will be the fourth project for slum rehabilitation after those in Kalkaji where flats have already been allotted to slum dwellers. Kathputh Colony and Jailorwala Bagh, in both areas construction work is in progress.
DDA official said, “The rehabilitation project decision was taken after the visit of LG to Kalandar Colony in Shahdara on March 5th at the request of slum dwellers.”

After the visit, LG wrote on X, “Dear Arvind Kejriwal, being the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, it is my constitutional responsibility and duty to highlight the issues of the people before the Chief Minister of my government and draw your attention towards the problems being faced by the people of Delhi.”
Kejriwal responded by asking the chief secretary to address the issues highlighted by LG.
The in situ rehabilitation project will construct multi-storied buildings, these will be flats with modern amenities, utilizing over seven hectares of land in the three slum clusters. “These flats will be given to slum dwellers who have been living in subhuman conditions,” said the official.
Other Projects by Delhi Development Authorities
DDA’s first in situ project at Kalkaji was inaugurated in Nov 2022 by PM Narendra Modi and 3,024 flats were built for rehabilitation of slum dwellers. The second project at Jailorwala Bagh will provide houses to 1,675 families, it’s in progress.
At the Kathputli Colony redevelopment project, 2,800 flats in 14-storey towers are in construction, with an average flat size of 37 square meters.
