Actor, singer, and producer Gippy Grewal has become one of the most successful performers in the Punjabi music and film industries.
Grewal’s real name is Rupinder Singh Grewal, but he went by “Gippy” on stage since that was his childhood nickname. At Kot Gangu Rai, Ludhiana’s Nankana Sahib Public School, he finished his early education. He continued on to the North India Institute of Hotel Management in Panchkula, where he graduated with a degree in hotel management.
In 2002, Grewal made his music debut with the release of the album Chakk Ley, which featured Jagdev Maan. Subsequently, he released a number of albums, including Desi Rockstar (2010), Aaja Ve Mitran (2003), Phulkari 2 (2005), Chandi De Challe (2007), My Time To Shine (2008), and Limited Edition (2021).
The biggest hit of his career was the song Yo Yo Honey Singh Feat. Gippy Grewal: Angreji Beat (2011), which he wrote with Yo Yo Honey Singh. The song was also included in the 2012 Bollywood film Cocktail, which starred Deepika Padukone and Saif Ali Khan.
In 2010, Grewal made his acting debut in the highly successful Punjabi film Mel Karade Rabba (2010). He then starred in the romantic comedy Jihne Mera Dil Luteya (2011), which was also a box office success.
He starred in Baljit Singh Deo’s Mirza: The Untold Story (2012) in 2012. Since then, he has acted in multiple Punjabi movies, including Daaka (2019), Carry on Jatta (2012), Manje Bistre (2017), and Jatt James Bond (2014).
Grewal appeared as a guest star in the 2015 Hindi film Dharam Sankat Mein. In the romantic comedy Second Hand Husband (2015), he costarred with Tina Ahuja in his first leading role in a Hindi film.
For his work in the Punjabi film industry, Grewal has received multiple accolades, including the PTC Punjabi Film Award for Best Actor for Carry On Jatta 2 (2018) in 2019 and Jatt James Bond (2014) in 2015. In 2019, he was also granted the Brit Asia Award for Best Actor for the film Carry On Jatta 2 (2018).
Grewal has received recognition for his acting as well as music, including the PTC Punjabi Music Awards in the categories of Best Dual Vocalist and Most Popular Song.

In ‘Jatt Nuu Chudail Takri,’ Grewal reunites with the endearing Sargun Mehta, just a month after the heart-pounding ‘Warning 2.’ This Vikas Vashisht-directed film is said to be a comedy-drama. Originally scheduled to release in theatres on March 15, 2024, it now promises a healthy dose of humour.
Shera Di Kaum Punjabi
April brings us the cinematic treat ‘Sheran Di Kaum Punjabi,’ in which Grewal plays a Sikh warrior. Bollywood icon Sanjay Dutt’s Pollywood debut is adding to the excitement. The film, which Grewal directed himself, is slated to be released on April 12, 2024. Even though not much about it has been revealed yet, it is regarded as one of the 2024 must-see films.
After a month of hiatus, Grewal will comeback with two main ladies Sargun Mehta and Jasmin Bhasin on ‘Carry On Jattiye’ following the success of ‘Carry On Jatta,’ film will release on 26th July, 2024. And on the same day ‘Manje Bistre 3’ featuring Gippy Grewal will hit the theatres.
