According to a recent update about Stranger Things’ Season 5, there will be yet another long break in between seasons.
Despite a history of lengthy breaks between seasons, the effects-heavy Netflix series, which centres on supernatural events in the 1980s fictional town of Hawkins, Indiana, has managed to maintain its popularity. Despite the fact that seasons 1 and 2 were released in 2016 and 2017, respectively, just 15 months apart, there was a pause of three years before the release of season 4, which occurred in 2022.
Season 3 was released in 2019, almost two years after the second and season 5 of the show is expected to be its last season.
Stranger Things Season 5 updates:
According to Deadline, a number of well-known Netflix series have been postponed after being left out of a promotional video for the streaming service’s upcoming 2024 releases. This includes the upcoming fifth season of Stranger Things, which won’t release until 2025.
This means that, as the show approaches its big finale, there will be yet another three-year break between seasons.
Reasons behind the delays:
The dual 2023 Hollywood strikes are a major reason for the delay following the Stranger Things season 5 finale. Writers and actors went on strike throughout the year to demand fair pay from the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers.
The Writers Guild of America and the Screen Actors Guild’s stalled negotiations took 148 and 118 days to resolve, respectively, resulting in either one or both unions going on strike throughout the year from May 2 to November 9.
Nevertheless, it doesn’t seem like this delay will be any bigger than the pandemic-related delays that prolonged the break between seasons 3 and 4. Filming for season 5 of Stranger Things commenced in early January, and at the very least, the cast has reunited. Even though the show needs a lot of post-production work, things are going rather well so far.
Even before their lengthy post-production process starts, Stranger Things season production can take a while to wrap up. All in all, though, production has typically taken seven months, barring the pandemic-delayed season 4. The final season of the show is likely to debut between January and April of 2025, given that the turnaround time for post-production is typically between four and eight months.
